Reach Out School of Ministry (ROSM) was established in 2013 after much struggle, prayer, and thoughtful deliberation. At the time, many churches in Mt. Elgon were at a crossroads. While local ministers were filled with zeal and passion for the work of God, many lacked formal theological training, a vital tool for effective and sustainable ministry.
Many had tried to access Bible schools, but were hindered by costs, distance, and time constraints. Additionally, economic hardship in Mt. Elgon made access to education extremely difficult. It was into this need that ROSM was born, offering a practical and affordable solution.
Classes officially began on April 1st, 2013, with 22 students, all of them active pastors. The school adopted the Certificate in Ministerial Studies (CIMS) program from the Church of God World Missions, made possible through the support of the late Marcia Ruth Anderson, a missionary serving in Kenya with the Church of God. On April 17th, 2015, she joyfully conferred certificates to the first graduating class, marking a key milestone in ROSM's history.
Since then, 105 students have graduated with a CIMS certificate—and the results have been truly transformational.
Since the establishment of ROSM, we have witnessed significant spiritual and church growth across Mt. Elgon and its surrounding regions. To date, 11 new churches have been planted by our graduates. There is also notable spiritual maturity in many congregations, as trained leaders now preach, teach, and disciple more effectively.
ROSM has also opened the door for partnerships with other organizations that share the vision of building the body of Christ in the region:
The school, in partnership with Evangelistic Partners International (EPI), has helped equip graduates with projectors and speakers to show the Jesus Film, a powerful evangelism tool that has impacted many lives.
We have partnered with Wycliffe Associates (WA) to launch Oral Bible Translation (OBT) projects in 10 local languages across western Kenya. This has enabled ministers to preach comfortably and effectively in heart languages, which is bearing much fruit in discipleship and evangelism.
Through our connection with WA, we also partnered with the Asian Seminary of Christian Ministries (ASCM), creating pathways for our students to pursue further theological education.
Reach Out School of Ministry continues to stand as a beacon of hope and transformation in Mt. Elgon. What began with 22 eager pastors has now become a movement, equipping leaders, planting churches, and partnering with global ministries to bring the Gospel to every corner of the region. We are deeply grateful to God and to all our partners for making this possible.
